“That is a seriously strange sculpture, eh, Doris?”
“Indeed, Hank. Do you think it’s supposed to represent a real creature that once was?”
“Well, it doesn’t look like any dinosaur I’ve ever seen in museums or books!”
“I don’t know why, but it kinda gives me that ‘Nightmare Before Christmas’ vibe.”
“Well, whatever it is or is supposed to represent, it gives me the heebie jeebies, Doris!”
“Excuse me”, came a silky voice; “May I help you? You seem to have wandered into my Nightmare and must pay…”
Fear coursed through their veins as they were engulfed in a cloud.

That’s interesting, I was setting myself up for a comedic story and then you switched it up in the last line….:) that was cool.

Wicked and nice 🙂 It starts out like a scene from a “Carry on” comedy film and ends up being a Hammer House of Horror one!

Yup, I loved the twist, too. And what a scary idea, to walk into someone’s nightmare and having to pay… Great story, well worth the wait. 🙂

It does have the Nightmare Before Christmas vibe! Indeed, it does. I knew there was something about this sculpture I was missing. I would be freaked out if this thing came to life and started talking with a silky voice. Great story!

I stared so long at the sculpture wondering what it is I almost forgot to read your story. Skillful combination of the picture prompt and your imagination. 🙂

I hear you! I had to stare for so long trying to come up with something reasonable!

Dear Dale,
Being in one’s own nightmare’s bad enough. Spooky.

Just another example of why nobody should ever, ever, ever trust anything appearing like a prehistoric skeleton.

Trespassing in someone else’s nightmare! What a horrible concept. I like how you lead us in to your horror ending. Great twist.
