Advent Calendar – Day 6

In the spirit of Christmas and the Advent Calendar that has been revamped and re-purposed in myriad ways, I have decided to do one of another sort.  Instead of taking one chocolate per day (or wine or whatever goodie is in vogue) or adding one item into a box to donate for a good cause (a very good thing, indeed) I have chosen to send a little love to my favourite blogs.

Good morning my readers!  Time for a new treat!

Day 6:  Castelsarrazin

Sandra Crook is a wonderful writer whom I “met” through Friday Fictioneers.  Her ability to grab you and suck you in, in a mere 100 words is amazing.  She is a master (mistress?) of the short story and I’m always happy to see her face in the FF “Hollywood Squares” because, even when she tries to tell us her story is not her best, it is always beyond good.  She has written quite a few longer stories that have won her more than a few awards ~ most first place winners, I might add – with good reason.  Her latest may have gotten her a third place, but honestly, I thought it deserved first!  I am biased.  You, read it, you’ll see it is fabulous!

Sandra has shared her sailing adventures on “Désormais”, though that chapter of her life is over, as well as her love of photography of nature, mostly flowers.  She has a wonderful sense of humour, a dry wit, as well as a dark side when needed for her stories.  Don’t be fooled by that sweet face, she’s not all flowrs and sweetness!

  1. Dear Dale,

I’m so happy to see Sandra on the list. She was one of the Friday Fictioneers who welcomed me back in my early days as one of the gang. When it comes to a complete story to take your breath away in 100 words or less, Sandra is the one who shows the rest of us how it’s done. I totally concur with everything you wrote about our friend.

    Shalom,

    Rochelle

    • Dear Rochelle,

How could she not make it? She does the same to me each time she plays with us… and every time Sandra shares one of her stories submitted elsewhere, too!
So very glad you do 😉

      Lotsa love,

      Dale

    • She is… because she lives in the U.K., 6 hours ahead of Rochelle, so when Rochelle’s post goes up at 2:30 Missouri time (as per scheduling), it’s already 8:30 UK time (give or take) 😉 And that’s why Rochelle’s link doesn’t go up until later when she herself gets up!

  2. Lovely post about a really interesting person – Sandra’s references to her time on the French waterways have intrigued me since I began FF and I always look forward to reading her hundred words. She never fails to hit the right note. By the way, Dale, I just read Huff Post’s latest saying that Canadians are the best at celebrating Christmas and the country’s debt ratio is going down. I wonder if the two things are connected. Making time for people instead of just throwing money around? Sorry to go off on a tangent but just had to mention it.

    • She is most interesting and blows me away week after week.
Are we now? That is intriguing! And the debt ratio going down… hmmm. Well I can speak for myself. I much prefer time over money but the latter helps 😉

  3. Another great story teller – Hi Sandra! I miss seeing you and all the others at FF. I’ve been so busy at work that I don’t have time to write in the morning and then read and comment on so many other stories in the middle of the week. And it is getting increasingly harder to keep myself to 100 words! But Sandra always does such a great job of it!

Dale, I’m almost relieved that you keep posting at least *some* blogs that I already know about, so that I don’t have two dozen NEW blogs to add to my list. 😀

  4. Here, here on this one! Sandra is such an amazing writer, so skilled and layered and dark too, She’d so skillful that I sit in awe when I read her stories – she achieves so much in so few words.
And I agree with you about that third placing – she was robbed! Lovely post Dale

    • Thank you, Lynn! She really is. And that sweet face hides a dark side! She blows me away every week… Like a certain someone I know…
She was! So very glad you enjoyed!
