Phew! Was getting carried away with this one. Went back to Crispina’s rules and regs and realised… oops! Gotta cut back! I knew I had a haiku in mind for this one. Then decided it turn it into a Haibun. (I’m no expert here so I just might be misnaming my offering. Apologies, if I am!)
General Truths
I look at this gate or door of sorts and quotes pop into my mind:
- “When one door closes, another opens” ~ Alexander Graham Bell
- “If the gates are open, walk in; if the gates are closed, find a way and move in!” ~
- “Be an opener of doors” ~ Ralph Waldo Emerson
- “A very little key will open a very heavy door.”~ Charles Dickens
Adage, expression, axiom, cliché, proverb… I never realised there were so many different words meaning
“a short statement expressing a general truth”
General truth. Makes sense, they didn’t ‘come to be’ out of thin air, did they? Don’t know why it’s such an insult to be called a cliché if you are happy with who you are. Why allow naysayers power over you?
Funny how the quotes that came to mind speak of breaking barriers.
Choices to be made
Doors and gates: End? Or
Possibilities?
(150 words)
I rather like being the opener of doors. 🙂
One of the simple pleasures of helpfulness to others that takes nothing from me and gives another person a moment of connection. Simple stuff, this, but still important.
🙂
Fun interpretation, Dale, me think!

I am beyond pleased that I nailed the prompt – and to this extent,
Oh 😦 (ha ha!) 😀

My bad. I mistook your crow of outrageious pleasure for a crow of outraged horror. Guess it distorted as it cross the ocean.
And that makes me smile. Here we are conversing as if in the same room, yet my letters in my greataunt in Toronto (now deceased, and decaying) used to tale weeks. And I remember the first time my brother phoned from Chicago …. the endless delays between the he saids and I replieds. Yet … the wonders of modern technology; we can insult and make up in less than a minute! 🙂

And it is crazy (besides the fact that we could be chatting “en directe” with any app like WhatsApp or such. Technology has taken us way to another place and brought us closer (yes, and driven some apart as those who could face-to-face, often choose text to text)

Yea, indeed. That woefully unfeeling bitches (and blokes) who resort to a text message instead of verbally informing the unwanted lover he/she’s dumped. Gross.

By the way I sent a ping back to you in my last post about continuing a story, don’t feel you have to continue but I’m beginning to doubt if anyone gets my ping backs which would mean they are not ping backs but something else!

Ha ha! Glad you didn’t.
Hmmm… I did not receive a ping back. Are you sure you did it right? Did you include a link to my blog? I’ll go snooping and see “what ya done”!

I think I included a link to your blog, at the bottom. If you could have a look when you’ve got 5 mins I’d appreciate it. I think I’m right but if you didn’t get it then I must be wrong

Alrighty. I have checked your post and cannot for the life of me figure out why I did not get notification… when I click on your link to my blog (and how sweet are you, naming me like that?) it brings me to my blog. I even checked my Spam file… Nada. I checked my settings and I should have at least had this in my ‘to be approved’ comments. I know not what to say!! Except, I shall accept your challenge, Shrawls.

There’s a lot to think about, Dale. And every cliché was once fresh, and is heard for the first time by someone. End, or possibilities?–I have a feeling you’ve opened a lot of doors that seemed closed and locked.

So very glad it did (give a lot to think about). Exactly what I thought – a cliché was once fresh.
And, I don’t know if I have (I like to think so) but I like to think I’m not done!

Q,
A haibun is something you get at Cinnabon. I love those little things! With some cafe, always have to be able to chase it with something.
Not sure what this is supposed to be. Is it a story? A Merriam Webster definition gone groovy trip? I dig the gate pic and the quotes very much, so Imma go with . . . both. 🙂

B,
I was expecting a “bun” comment from you and you delivered! ‘-)
Not sure either, to tell the truth. I think it was supposed to be a sort of reflection which came with a definition! All’s I can say is thank you for being kind enough to read and dig 🙂

Q-licious,
Well there was hair bun, cinnamon buns, hot buns, warm buns . . so MANY buns, so little coffee.
Sorry for not quite getting the challenge. I’m really piss poor with these things, as you well know. But you on the other hand . . the Mistress of Might. You really should come up with your own challenge, yanno? You gots the followers, you gots the personality. You gots the imagination.
I always dig your stuff, you know that. 😉

B-lightful,
There are indeed so many buns, so little coffee – we should work on that!
And what was there to get? You were right, it does come off as a definition doohickey.
Oh hells no! I’ll just join in the fun others create – if I feel like it.
I know you do. Coz you are a friend… 😉

Hell, that’s gonna be the new tag line of my blog. Seriously.
It was dare I say . . very Frank-like. It’s the teacher in him.
Watchou mean hells no? That was way too quick a rebuke to a serious discussion on the merits of a Dale launched challenge, if you ask me. And I know you didn’t ask me. Which is why I put it out there.
That I yam. 🙂

Which part will be your new tag line. Never mind… lemme notice when you do change it!
I know. And he actually told me he liked it BECAUSE it was like his style. Not sure how to take that one 😉
Quick rebuke coz 1) no way in hell I am creative enough to even come up with a challenge and 2) you wouldn’t participate and 3) I got enough keeping up with all the bloggers I love, never mind some challenges…
That you are xoxo

With Frank, be very cautious as to every thing you say. Because I’ve learned it takes a spy to know a spy. Not saying you ARE a spy . . .
Okay, these are all fair points you make here. I will respectfully stop harassing you about it. Well . . as respectfully as I can get.
XOXO

Yes. I shall be ûber cautious… of course you are not. Sigh.
I do try to be fair…

I’m not saying Frank IS a spy, just as I am not saying you are a spy. But . . . a spy WOULD claim to be fair. If only to throw peeps off the track. Again, this is all hypothetical . . .

Baseball . . it was entirely about baseball. We might have brought up spies, but it was in reference to movies. Not once did we personalize the word ‘spy’, nor accuse you of being one. So help me George Burns.

Dear Dale,
I didn’t think I was going to get through the Dale and Marco show. 😉 Buns, puns and fritters a-plenty. I believe things become cliche for a reason. And the reasons aren’t always bad, are they? I had a friend who was fond of saying a failure is an opportunity to learn, Love the piece…so very Dale and then some.
Shalom,
Rochelle
