Today Pegman goes walkabout to Alice Springs, Australia.
Made famous by Nevil Shute’s bestselling novel A Town Like Alice, Alice is a “bonzer place,” considered by many to be the jewel of the Outback.
The purpose of this prompt is to inspire you to write 150 words about this place. You can use the Google photo above or stroll around until you see something that strikes your fancy. When you’re done, remember to link your story to the others using the InLinkz frog below. Reading and commenting is half the fun.
Enjoy yourself and do good work!
Thanks to Josh and Karen for hosting. I haven’t “played” in a while but could not resist this week. Mom has always dreamed of going to Australia and we haven’t managed to bring her. Yet.
Never Too Late
Lianne dropped her bags in the lobby, looking around at their home for the next three weeks. “What do you think, Mom?”
“It doesn’t feel like Australia. Seems like any old hotel, any old where!”
Lianne couldn’t help but smile. “You’re not really complaining, are you? Not my fault you finally got your courage up and ready in your mid-seventies! I didn’t see us camping out in the Outback! You’re a little long in the tooth for that now, don’t you think?”
Mo frowned at her daughter. “Not like I had the chance till now. The men in my life either didn’t want to bring me or join me so now that I am free, dammit, there is no way I wanted to miss this.”
“We are here now and I’ve a bunch of excursions planned so you can finally see the land you’ve dreamt of. It’s never too late.”
Always enjoy your micro-fictions, Dale.
And here I can see something I can identify with. Yea, to do the things you want to do, first get rid of the hubby. But isn’t that a sad reflection on marriage.

Thanks, Crispina! Was stuck on your challenge. So I put it aside, for now… I’ll be back.
And yes, it is a very sad reflection…

I looked for you all day yesterday. I was beginning to worry; not that you hadn’t posted to the CCC prompt, but that you’d not posted anything that I coud see. So, much relieved when I saw this appear in the Reader.

Honestly. I had a couple paragraphs, just couldn’t seem to get it to go where I wanted to!
Methinks it will come to fruition (or get totally flushed and redone!)

Don’t stress on it. Inspiration comes. Rejoice. Inspiration stays away? There’ll come another day. 🙂

I don’t. Nothing came up with last week’s but his week’s is more than half-way there…I’m just not satisfied with it 😉

I do understand. I selected next week’s photo;, as usual selected on its ability to inspire many and varied takes. Then looked at it. And looked. And looked. Inspiration doesn’t always come fully formed. I knew the theme, and perhaps two half lines … ho-hum. It’ll come.
And now I sound like Little Boo Peep.

Tee hee! Good to know that even the supplier of images has to take time and think about it 😉

Oh yes. Though Grandma Lived Across the Track fell ready-made into my head, but that’s a rare treat.

Good response to the prompt, Dale. A little sad that someone had to wait until their mid-seventies to do what they want. Nice job.

Thank you. John. Yes, it is quite sad.
I wish I could up and bring her 😉

Hope you all get there!
Did you ever see the Masterpiece, “A Town Like Alice?” I remember really liking it, and the book. When I was student teaching, my cooperating teacher dressed up as Alice Springs, and we tried to convince the class of second graders that it wasn’t really their teacher. 🙂 Her son and daughter-in-law (I think) had lived there for a time for work.

No, I didn’t. Josh chose this destination because of the Masterpiece. I’ll have to put it on my list 😉
How fun to have such a teacher!!

That’s funny he chose it because of the show. I do remember it being really good. There’s something that stuck with me–not in Alice Springs, but in Malaysia when the woman returns to help the women by getting them a well.
She was such a fun and excellent teacher for those kids. They couldn’t get anything by her, but she also knew how to make things fun–gave them breaks to just jump up and down, etc. 🙂

Pretty much!
Will have to look into getting the book, at least…
She sounds like a wonderful teacher. The kind kids remember.

Dear Dale,
I like that both of our stories said “It’s never too late.” Love this and hope Mo has a great time. I had fun reading. And remember, you can get anything you want at Alice’s Restaurant. 😉
Shalom and lotsa hugs,
Rochelle

I’m now reading Lorna Doone. First time, and heavy going because of the lyrical language, but really enjoying it.

Definitely. Persevere through the first 2 chapters and it gets easier and better as you progress.

Love this. That does look like every motel in Palm Springs, all right. My first thing would be to duck into the loo and see which way the water spiraled.

It so does! I saw it and just had to use it because of it. I could just imagine the “let-down” when expecting to see something out of the ordinary. I think I would do that too! 😀

Sweet! A positive message, and I like it. Maybe they’ll both hear some thunder while they’re out there?

Q,
There is no wait in weight. And as the two ‘girls’ will come to find, there ain’t no name to personal discoveries. That there is the message OF the universe. To each story, abide willingly and do not wait on something or someone. Because in the end we find, we are the tour guides to the wherever after.
To the outback! 🙂

B,
I tend to think so. Too many people put off until they are too ill or weak. And worse, too many people wait for others to make their own dreams happen.
To the outback or wherever your dream destination lies!

There’s a Thelma and Louise element to these two, without the need to actually drive off a cliff. More like . . . bang Brad Pitt, eat some chocolates and score a big bottle of wine for the story you done made, LOL.
Well spun, as per. 🙂

Funny thing. Today I’ve been recollecting my two marriages that were
both disappointments. And the amazing life I’ve had in spite of that. Truly it is never too late.

Sorry so late to this. I was studying for an exam and am finally getting back to Pegman & real life.
I hope this story comes true to some degree and you can entice your mom to visit. It would be the trip of a lifetime, I’m sure!
You and Rochelle are of a mind with the theme of “never too late.” Love it!
