Never Too Late – What Pegman Saw

Today Pegman goes walkabout to Alice Springs, Australia.

Made famous by Nevil Shute’s bestselling novel A Town Like Alice, Alice is a “bonzer place,” considered by many to be the jewel of the Outback.

The purpose of this prompt is to inspire you to write 150 words about this place. You can use the Google photo above or stroll around until you see something that strikes your fancy. When you’re done, remember to link your story to the others using the InLinkz frog below. Reading and commenting is half the fun.

Enjoy yourself and do good work!

Thanks to Josh and Karen for hosting.  I haven’t “played” in a while but could not resist this week.  Mom has always dreamed of going to Australia and we haven’t managed to bring her.  Yet.

You are invited to the Inlinkz link party!

Lianne dropped her bags in the lobby, looking around at their home for the next three weeks.  “What do you think, Mom?”

“It doesn’t feel like Australia.  Seems like any old hotel, any old where!”

Lianne couldn’t help but smile.  “You’re not really complaining, are you?  Not my fault you finally got your courage up and ready in your mid-seventies!  I didn’t see us camping out in the Outback!  You’re a little long in the tooth for that now, don’t you think?”

Mo frowned at her daughter.  “Not like I had the chance till now.  The men in my life either didn’t want to bring me or join me so now that I am free, dammit, there is no way I wanted to miss this.”

“We are here now and I’ve a bunch of excursions planned so you can finally see the land you’ve dreamt of.  It’s never too late.”

  1. Always enjoy your micro-fictions, Dale.
And here I can see something I can identify with. Yea, to do the things you want to do, first get rid of the hubby. But isn’t that a sad reflection on marriage.

  2. Hope you all get there!
Did you ever see the Masterpiece, “A Town Like Alice?” I remember really liking it, and the book. When I was student teaching, my cooperating teacher dressed up as Alice Springs, and we tried to convince the class of second graders that it wasn’t really their teacher. 🙂 Her son and daughter-in-law (I think) had lived there for a time for work.

      • That’s funny he chose it because of the show. I do remember it being really good. There’s something that stuck with me–not in Alice Springs, but in Malaysia when the woman returns to help the women by getting them a well.
She was such a fun and excellent teacher for those kids. They couldn’t get anything by her, but she also knew how to make things fun–gave them breaks to just jump up and down, etc. 🙂

  3. Dear Dale,

I like that both of our stories said “It’s never too late.” Love this and hope Mo has a great time. I had fun reading. And remember, you can get anything you want at Alice’s Restaurant. 😉

    Shalom and lotsa hugs,

    Rochelle

    • It so does! I saw it and just had to use it because of it. I could just imagine the “let-down” when expecting to see something out of the ordinary. I think I would do that too! 😀

  4. Q,

There is no wait in weight. And as the two ‘girls’ will come to find, there ain’t no name to personal discoveries. That there is the message OF the universe. To each story, abide willingly and do not wait on something or someone. Because in the end we find, we are the tour guides to the wherever after.

    To the outback! 🙂

  5. Sorry so late to this. I was studying for an exam and am finally getting back to Pegman & real life.

I hope this story comes true to some degree and you can entice your mom to visit. It would be the trip of a lifetime, I’m sure!

You and Rochelle are of a mind with the theme of “never too late.” Love it!
