Weekend Writing Prompt #102 – Impress

I almost did not participate this week.  However, today seems a good day to give thanks to those who might not realise that their actions, words, their just being them, mean to me.  I feel much love.

A word prompt to get your creativity flowing this weekend.  How you use the prompt is up to you.  Write a piece of flash fiction, a poem, a chapter for your novel…anything you like.  Or take the challenge below – there are no prizes – it’s not a competition but rather a fun writing exercise.  If you want to share what you come up with, please leave a link to it in the comments.  Thank you, Sammi, for hosting this weekly challenge.  It’s one of my favourites.

Challenge

There is something more than special about finding and being with people who get you

The ones who take you as you are with all your warts and idiosyncracies

They love you when you laugh and join in on your silliness

They love you when you cry and not only offer their shoulder but cry with you

You don’t have to impress them with anything material

You don’t have to put on airs and pretend to be someone you are not

To you, dear ones, who have given me time, muscles, spirit, space

Know your love for me is impressed deeply in my heart

    • I had to use this version.
Happy Easter to you and yours.
Yes. And amazingly, the ones found on the blogosphere have become rather important, too.

      • It absolutely is. But there is a thing you did here … it’s about drawing a line between friends and those who aren’t but think they are. That’s the only way I can describe it. There are a few of the former and a whole lot of the latter. I refer to the former as my circle — the friends who (a) get me, (b) I can talk about anything with, (c) who challenge me, (d) who always support me in the end, (e) who are there, always there … and then the latter, a mile wide and an inch deep.

  1. Q,

The people who ‘get’ the real you, are the ones you want in your corner when the shit hits the fan. Because they are the ones who know your skill set best of all.

And I’m not talking about your ability to tuck one of life’s big lessons into 104 words. Which you do so damned well! Yanno . . we talk about this all the time? But I can’t do this. Not the way you do this. Not every week, several times a week. I just can’t. You got me.

I’m not just saying that because I ‘get’ you. I’m saying it because I know you. And really, to know you IS to love you.

    Thanks amiga. For always knowing.

  2. A great piece Dale. We don’t need pretender friends. Loved the link to one of my favorite singers. Mad Dogs and Englishmen, Joe Cocker. One of my absolute greatest concerts was Joe opening for Tom Petty in Sturgis, South Dakota several years back. Sadly they are both gone, but not forgotten. Anyway, I’m glad to count you as a friend and hope Rochelle and I get to see you later this year.
