Been away for a few days so lots of catching up to do 😉 This word could have gone in so many directions but they say to stick with the first one that pops into your head, so that’s what I “done did”!
A word prompt to get your creativity flowing this weekend. How you use the prompt is up to you. Write a piece of flash fiction, a poem, a chapter for your novel…anything you like. Or take the challenge below – there are no prizes – it’s not a competition but rather a fun writing exercise. If you want to share what you come up with, please leave a link to it in the comments. Thank yuu, Sammi!

Have you ever associated a song to a person?
“Hard to Handle” will always be Patti’s. I see her, sitting in her dining room, head resting on her hand, elbow on the back of her chair while she sings along.
“Free Fallin'” will always be Brenda’s coz she and Mick sang that one when they were feelin’ no pain.
“Crystal Ball” is my cousin Sonya’s because we would belt it out dancing down the main drag in Lac-des-Plages when we were sixteen.
I recently found out that this last song was my song, assigned by my friend Tina! How cool is that?
Always nice to have a song.

I was so surprised. We were having dinner at friends’ and Crystal Ball came on and I said. Oh man, that song is my favourite and one I associate to my cousin and Tina pipes up: That’s my song for you!
I was kinda touched.

I like that song ‘on you’!
Also, yes, isn’t it fun when people have ‘their’ songs? I love that you put in words something I could read and nod along to!
🙂
Well done.

I cannot help but belt it out when it plays! So, I guess Tina picked well 😉
It is so fun. There are a few songs I associate to various people. 102 words forced me to acknowledge the first that popped into my head. Sorry Dad… “If You Think I’m Sexy” 😉

I think you’d started something here … I can’t wait for the continued installments of this ‘song series’ … 🙂

Ha ha ha! Oh, well, I dunno about that… 😉

Dear Dale,
Yes I can understand why Crystal Ball is your song, too. I can only imagine what Free Falling sounded like when Mick and Brenda were feeling no pain. The thought has me laughing.
This one has been assigned to me and I hear it every time my phone rings. 😉 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SkkIwO_X4i4 (Enjoy)
Love this piece.
Shalom and lotsa hugs,
Rochelle

Dear Rochelle,
It’s a great song 😀
And Brenda was like a jukebox and she really could carry a tune; mind you, at the time they started singing it, arms wrapped around each other’s shoulders… 😉
Ha ha! Love it. Wonder why it was assigned to you… hmmm… lemme think….
Glad you enjoyed!
Shalom and lotsa love,
Dale

Songs and music create suck connections and memories and feelings. I couldn’t possibly figure out what my song is.

Suck connections, eh?
Honestly, I couldn’t possibly figure out my own song for me, either. But it was cool to find out that one had been assigned me 🙂

Okay … that’s quite the typo!!! Such SUCH!!!!
Crystal Ball isn’t a bad song to be assigned to you.

Hahahaha!!! Too funny.
It’s not so bad at all. And I can sing it from beginning to end. And I still love it.

It’s a perfect example of how timeless music can be. (By the way, while I was thinking “timeless” the first time I typed that sentence “lifeless” popped up instead. Methinks I need to proofread a bit before hitting “Send”.

That is for sure.
Hmmm… Is there some kind of Freudian thing happening?
Methinks it is best to proofread – even comments 😉

One more thing … if I had to pick a song for me at the moment, it would be The Pretender by Jackson Browne. It’s actually been my song for a number of years now. Would like to come up with a new song to define my future.

I had to listen to the whole song (and this one had the lyrics) as I am unfamiliar with it. I like it. It’s kinda melancholy though so I’m thinking you do need a new song for your future

I’ve been all about the melancholy for quite awhile. I may have news very soon that could change that. 😉

Melancholy does help writers, I’ve heard tell…
Oh? Will you share with us?

Yep. Where is the drama in happy. And yes, once I have some certainty about what’s coming, there will be a blog post.

Cool take. And now I’m listening to your song for the first time in a long time. It’s a good one.

Thanks, D!
It is such a good song. I’ve loved it since that album came out.

Nice share, Dale. Now you’ve got me wondering what my song is. Probably *Whole of the Moon* by the Waterboys

That’s a great tune! I had to click the link as neither the title nor the group name were ringing a bell. I know the song but didn’t know the “particulars”! 😉

Interesting conversation about songs. It is fun to read about so many different ones.

Funny how a moment defines that a song gets associated to a person. Then again, sometimes it is assigned because they sing it all the time.
Glad you thought it was interesting

Lots of things remind me of songs all the time, but I’m not sure if I have a song associated with any people–have to think about it. I didn’t know Crystal Ball. I listened to it just now. So, I guess I can imagine you belting out the crystal ball part, but. . .I don’t know. 😉

I hear ya. Crystal Ball has nothing to do with me and my personality whatsoever. Just a song I loved enough for my neighbour to notice it and assign it to me 😉
Just weird. I hear Free Fallin’ and I immediately think of Brenda – she was such a card.

Q,
I have playlists in me noggin for certain periods of my life. In much the same way Picasso had his color as per his blue for the monochromatic period and his rose for the bloom of love and poetry that came after. The shit of it is, one of my favorite entertainers (Beth Hart) got stuck inside my blue period. There are certain songs that drip with blech, sad to say.
Your post remind me of something I was talking about recently. What if every day peeps had walk in songs? Like, athletes have their songs that get played over the PA system when they make the scene. What about a song for when you walk into the room? I couldn’t settle on just one when the question was asked of me, LOL.
Wonderful lyrics, Q!

B,
Oh, I know you do! And yes, I also have playlists for periods in my life. And sad when a performer we particularly like gets stuck in the wrong period so we can no longer listen to them at will without stirring up stuff.
That would be cool. I would have no clue what mine would be. But I do know it would change. During my um… new freedom days, my song woulda been Elle King’s Exes and Ohs. 😉
Gracias amigo.

She is still a favorite, she just happens to be stuck inside that time warp of a time before. After which Carly got stuck there too. And then Alanis, Karen Carpenter, Carole King, Amy Winehouse, Dolores O’Riordan . . . ugh.
Tell you what, if those gals weren’t so insanely talented, I wouldn’t cull their pipes on the regular.
Mine has heavy metal, R&B, country western even! And of course soul, grunge and disco just because.
De Nationale!

I know what you mean. I have my slew of ’em…
Of course not. Why would you?
Yeah! All in one song. Lemme know when you find it.

Love what you’ve done with this Dale, the way that you’ve assigned each song with an associated memory.

I don’t really know you well, but Crystal Ball has added to that knowledge. Anyway, I like you lots!
