Good Wednesday morn, my peeps! Rochelle has given us a most interesting picture to use today. It is thanks to Ronda Del Boccio that I found myself immediately sent in the direction I went. Sometimes we just have to let it go, eh? To play along, just click on the frog below and you’ll be taking to the squares where you can add your own story to the mix. G’head, you know you wanna….
Chopped
“What the hell, Mom?”
“What?” Mom’s voice was muffled as her head was deep into the refrigerator.
“What are you doing?”
“Looking for one more ingredient.”
“For what?”
“I am challenging you to create a dish with the black olives and the peach jelly and something else.”
“You have got to be kidding me.”
“You’ve seen the show. Made your snarky comments. Time to put your money where your mouth is.”
“Who’s gonna judge?”
“Jeff. He’s in town.”
“How about some beef? And we can use the pantry, right?”
“There’s the spirit!”
“Prepare to be chopped, Lady!”
“I think not.”
As I don’t know what peach jelly is (and honestly, I don’t want to know…) AND as someone who loves a) a challenge and b) loves cooking, as well as c) owns tons of cookbooks in 3 languages but only ever looks at the photos, I’d suggest – strictly off the cuff – to invite friends and eat the black olives, offer wine and ask the round what THEY would do with a jar of peach jelly – the winner with the most eccentric answer gets the jelly to keep….. Job done! – Great story too! 😉

Hahaha! You are so funny, Kiki! Peach jelly must be delicious (I do make peach jam, so why not?) I used to watch the show “Chopped” quite a bit and the ingredients they are given to work with are insane. The results can be quite spectacular.
Glad you enjoyed my story, but of course, you are disqualified as you did not use them in a cooked dish 😉

Cute, Dale. I could see making something with the olives and maybe just a spoonful of the peach jelly. Why not? 🙂
LikeLiked by 1 person
Why not indeed? They do it on chopped all the time. I mean sometimes the combo of ingredients is so far out there, I think, no way can they make something edible. They always do, though.

I’m sure we both do it, too, when we raid our refrigerators and pantries to come up with dinner. 🙂

And I realised the show uses FOUR ingredients and none seem to be able to be put together. I guess, I was just being nice, compared to the producer of the show 😉

I was thinking the same. A tapenade? Not sure what all is in it, but I think it is olive based.

Ummm…I just might pick up the gauntlet. I have seen the show and surprising peach jelly and Kalamata olives would be perfect with pork…not sure this is what I am supposed to take from the picture, but hey, I cook. 🤣
LikeLiked by 1 person
That’s the spirit! And I have to admit these two ingredients could easily be put together (but hey, I cook, too 😉 ) That’s why I put beef, because the first thing that came to mind was pork! That would be too easy…

Oh…dig deep, huh. Fish tacos in a kalamata olive oil base topped with a peach jelly slaw?

Well see, it is early and I haven’t finished my coffee yet. So totally missed that! (only saw a third ingredient) 😂
Can I just switch the fish with beef simmered in a jalapeno and olive broth and make it a peach jelly Salsa instead. Because I am tired and still taking the easy way out. 😜

I think I should have made the third ingredient peanut butter (as suggested by Christine) and I just realised they get FOUR ingredients in chopped so… to bugger things up with the beef 😉
And yes, that’ll do 😉
Scuse me while I go and get myself another coffee… I am obviously still not functioning 😉

For years, I’ve made what I call “Clean the refrigerator Stew.” You just never know what it’s going to be, and it’s fun to throw in the odd ingredient or two and watch the reactions of my family. Peach jelly is just made from the juice strained from the cooked peach pulp. Quite good, but I prefer jam. I think the jelly, though could be used as a sweetening ingredient, and who doesn’t love olives (well, lots of people, I guess 🙂 )
This was a great idea, Dale. I’m glad you went with it!

Q,
I used to play this with the kids. Whenever I had to decide what I was going to do with the remainders, this little contest came in handy. And every once in a while I would hit on something that would become a winner and I’d pluck it down into the rotation. On those other occasions, we would get pizza!
I much prefer your Chopped to whatever is going on over at the Food Channel these days. I’m pretty sure they’ve joined up Guy with the Chopped Gang. Or added a “live” tweet box or some other such inane idea. Ugh! What happened to that channel?
Love how you used this to rise up to the challenge!

B,
I basically cook like this anyway. Throw it all together and pray it’s edible! Luckily, it usually is.
I much prefer mine over the Food Network, too. It seems to be all Guy all the time. Or whatever damn contest they have going… Now it all about Christmas, of course. I haven’t tuned into that channel in years. They used to be so good. Oh well ..
Thank you, glad you enjoyed!

That’s why I cook way more than I bake. Because I can ‘measure’ differently and it all still comes out in the wash, so to speak.

That it done did. Iain’s Solyanka soup comes from his favourite Boris from YouTube… check him out if you wanna laugh… then you understand why Iain likes to cook when he’s two (coz three would be too far gone) sheets to the wind… They do.

First off, I ain’t no American – I’m Canadian and,
Nope. Jam is jam and jelly is jelly. Jelly is made from the juice of the fruit and jam is made with the fruit either whole or mashed up.
And yes, pork and fruit are fantastic friends. I’ve done blueberries, cranberries, apples, prunes…
