Weekend Writing Prompt #170 – Jostle

A word prompt to get your creativity flowing this weekend. How you use the prompt is up to you. Write a piece of flash fiction, a poem, a chapter for your novel…anything you like. Or take the challenge below – there are no prizes – it’s not a competition but rather a fun writing exercise. If you want to share what you come up with, please leave a link to it in the comments on Sammi’s blog, right here.

The same bit of an annoying tune

plays on repeat in my mind

pauses only

when unwanted thoughts creep in

Bills, kids, mother-in-law’s estate, am I enough?

Each jostling for my attention

How can Morpheus possibly do his thing

amidst such din?

  1. I had pretty bad insomnia in my 20s. You provide a good description of it. You know what ended my insomnia? Having kids. I think something having to do with the effort put into raising them, plus the stress from work, left me so exhausted at the end of the day, insomnia became a thing of the past.

  2. Of course it’s always a song you don’t like! What else would be the accompaniment of annoying thoughts! It’s like the Iznogoud in us taking over: “you wish to sleep huh? – Rest? – Take a quiet sleep and get refreshed? ….well, I got news for you……” You can even hear the evil laugh!!!!! I’ve recently discovered I good method to get rid of my Iznogoud. As soon as he kicks in, I tell him, “okay, whatever, …too bloody tired for you… zzzzzzzzzzzz” 😉
Try it! 😉 Brilliant and love the photo! xoxoxoxoxoxoxo

  3. Very neat, Thunder!
I suppose you mean the god of dreams, but in my bent mind I saw Laurence Fishburne as Morpheus in the Matrix.
Hmm, perhaps you did mean LF, he is quite the handsome dude.
Well, it sounds like you’ve got your plate full these days, so I send you this Sweet Dreams https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qeMFqkcPYcgx At least if this song gets stuck in your head, it will be sweet dreams!

  4. You obviously selected your words very carefully, Dale.
I do much prefer poems where I know WTF the poet is talking about.
Music? Yes, it helps with the brain going out of control.
    Well done.

  5. Q

I can’t talk shit about Morpheus since he’s been doing me a solid all week with some mighty fine sleeps, I hope you understand. But yeah, when the snowball does get rolling, it’s gonna ransack the flow of a good rhythm. 🙂

    Here’s to better sleep!
