A word prompt to get your creativity flowing this weekend. How you use the prompt is up to you. Write a piece of flash fiction, a poem, a chapter for your novel…anything you like. Or take the challenge below – there are no prizes – it’s not a competition but rather a fun writing exercise. If you want to share what you come up with, please leave a link to it in the comments on Sammi’s blog, right here.
The same bit of an annoying tune
plays on repeat in my mind
pauses only
when unwanted thoughts creep in
Bills, kids, mother-in-law’s estate, am I enough?
Each jostling for my attention
How can Morpheus possibly do his thing
amidst such din?
Such a horrible feeling when all those thoughts won’t let you sleep. And everything seems amplified in those sleepless hours, too.

So annoying. And ever notice the song snippet is almost never of a song you particularly like? It just loops on the same phrase. Ugh.

Yes! That’s so true. 😀

Mind you, even if it were a song we like, it would still get in our last nerve! 🤣
LikeLiked by 1 person
Yes, but only because you’re trying to get to sleep. I often have songs sort of in the background of my mind, but during the day it doesn’t matter.

What a brilliant description of insomnia. You do have a lot on your plate. I believe you are enough. ❤

How strange we have the same things on the brain! I hate those we small hours when what should be tiny thoughts become huge monsters and come to fight us! 💜

I would much prefer no thoughts at all as I try to sleep! 🧡🧡

I had pretty bad insomnia in my 20s. You provide a good description of it. You know what ended my insomnia? Having kids. I think something having to do with the effort put into raising them, plus the stress from work, left me so exhausted at the end of the day, insomnia became a thing of the past.
LikeLiked by 1 person
Lucky for you… Mine is worse than ever. Over-exhaustion only makes things worse.

I don’t know the Menzie stuff not to minimize it, but the song part I understand. This https://www.youtube.com/watch?reload=9&v=lGRsEDDfLz8 does that to me in a torturing kind of way.

There are worse songs to have stuck. Like the one I had was friggen “Sandi” from Grease! “Why oh why oh why? You left me, oh Sandi!”

True.
Guess if your going to be hauted you might as well be deeply haunted. Oh, Sandi-be-gosh.

I think we all end up a similar set of 42 words reminding us of life’s ever present annoyances.

How indeed, Dale. Sometimes the noise must be like Grand Central Station. Geat photo and use of the prompt.

Of course it’s always a song you don’t like! What else would be the accompaniment of annoying thoughts! It’s like the Iznogoud in us taking over: “you wish to sleep huh? – Rest? – Take a quiet sleep and get refreshed? ….well, I got news for you……” You can even hear the evil laugh!!!!! I’ve recently discovered I good method to get rid of my Iznogoud. As soon as he kicks in, I tell him, “okay, whatever, …too bloody tired for you… zzzzzzzzzzzz” 😉
Try it! 😉 Brilliant and love the photo! xoxoxoxoxoxoxo

Iznogoud! I love it. Yeah. It’s always the most annoying one part of a song over and over.
I will definitely try that!!

Very neat, Thunder!
I suppose you mean the god of dreams, but in my bent mind I saw Laurence Fishburne as Morpheus in the Matrix.
Hmm, perhaps you did mean LF, he is quite the handsome dude.
Well, it sounds like you’ve got your plate full these days, so I send you this Sweet Dreams https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qeMFqkcPYcgx At least if this song gets stuck in your head, it will be sweet dreams!

Thank you, Sorceress!
Yes, I did mean the god of dreams and not Laurence Fishburne, who, I will admit, is not someone to dismiss!
My plate seems like it is overflowing some days. I do thank you for this lovely song!

You obviously selected your words very carefully, Dale.
I do much prefer poems where I know WTF the poet is talking about.
Music? Yes, it helps with the brain going out of control.
Well done.

I can’t talk shit about Morpheus since he’s been doing me a solid all week with some mighty fine sleeps, I hope you understand. But yeah, when the snowball does get rolling, it’s gonna ransack the flow of a good rhythm. 🙂
Here’s to better sleep!

B,
Don’t you dare talk shit about Morpheus now! He can’t be taking care of all of us at the same time, ‘twould appear. My turn will come. So yes, I do understand.
Thanks! I got some decent sleep last night!
