A word prompt to get your creativity flowing this weekend. How you use the prompt is up to you. Write a piece of flash fiction, a poem, a chapter for your novel…anything you like. Or take the challenge below – there are no prizes – it’s not a competition but rather a fun writing exercise. If you want to share what you come up with, please leave a link to it in the comments. Thank you, Sammi.
When the world is right
and we know it is not always so
What little girl
Doesn’t see her daddy
As a megalith?
A tower of strength
and power and protection
that she loves and adores
One she models all future
lovers against
whether she realises it
or not
I AM NOT CRYING!
❤❤❤❤❤

Mm! A megalith? My father? More like my mother…. perhaps a Sarsen to his Bluestone?

Well done, you! I’m so glad that this is the view of your dad that you had, and the relationship you had with him and still carry in your heart. What a gift! It is indeed a “When the world is right” reality (or at least right ‘enough’), for indeed it is not always so. And yet, for everyone that it is, it is a gift.
I’m so glad for you.
xoxo Na’ama

Aww, thanks. He and I had our moments (quite a few) but in the end, the big picture says it was good.
And I specified that “when it is right” on purpose as I felt there would be those who… Well. Not so much.
Thanks, my friend. xoxo

Yep, I saw it, and appreciated it, and I’m sure many had, too. It makes me so very glad that the sum of experiences for many (perhaps even most) is “good.” It is how it should be. And it does not take away from the reality that too often it is not. Me glad for ya big picture! 🙂

Always best to take the big picture, I think.

Amazing. How can 49 brief words move me to tears?
How can 49 loving words make memory flow?
And those photos.
Wow

Thanks, Dale. Yes, I lost him, then, my mother within months of each other and then my son. 2019 was a really tough year. Yes, I loved reading your poem. It was very heartwarming.

Such amazing photos, you are an adorable child!! I didn’t have a close relationship with my Dad and my Mom died when I was eight but i can relate to this Dale. Lucky girl, it’s wonderful to have that Megalith.

Sorry you didn’t have a close relationship with your dad and man, to lose your mother so young could not have been easy.
I am lucky. He was special.

Yes, totally agree!
However, Thunder, the slide rule moves in different directions. Still the megalith remains.
My megalith was not as described in your fab poem, rather the opposite.
He was a bad stain, and I couldn’t be decent with any man, until I expunged the stain.
And I did! 😀

And that is why I started my poem the way I did… I know it is not the case for everyone, sadly…
Sorry you had to

Yes, you did start your poem that way. ⚡️💥
Guess I got a bit caught up in things I like to think I’ve rid myself of.
I get a bit of a chuckle whenever I remember his name is ….. Dick!

I did 😉
And, that is too funny because our former neighbours across the street… the husband, Richard, was a total asshole when they split up and Mick would say… Oh look, there’s the Dick.

It’s a special bond which stands the test of time. And the fact he was the former Prime Minister of Canada means you have plenty of history to remember.
Lovely piece.

I do believe so… And I’m sure there’s a little girl in your house who looks to her daddy the same way, even if he doesn’t look like the PM of Canada 😉
Thank you,
