A word prompt to get your creativity flowing this weekend. How you use the prompt is up to you. Write a piece of flash fiction, a poem, a chapter for your novel…anything you like. Or take the challenge below – there are no prizes – it’s not a competition but rather a fun writing exercise. If you want to share what you come up with, please leave a link to it in the comments.
Should you want to participate, just click here and add your link in Sammi’s comment section. It’s a great challenge.
Look at these colours! They’re as histrionic as that kid that arrived last night. Between him and those loud teenagers, our week of peace is done for.
Histrionic?
You know, dramatic and theatrical.
Hah! Nice use. Could you imagine a week?
The noise? No. The colours? Big time.
Dear Dale,
Histrionic colours indeed! That looks more like a painting than a photo. Loud kids, dramatic hues. Nicely done.
Shalom and lotsa bright hugs,
Rochelle

Dear Rochelle,
I won’t lie, I boosted them – but only a smidge, believe it or not… and only for this prompt. It was insanely beautiful, naturally!
And thank you. Glad you liked.
Shalom and lotsa colourful hugs,
Dale

Beautiful photo–not histrionic at all to me. I don’t think something like that could ever be too much. (Teenagers, yes.) 😏

Thank you, Merril… In this case, the drama is acceptable 😉
The kid and teenagers? Ugh.

I’ll tell you what’s histrionic…. that photo you took, and the way it’s making me feel.
Just breathtaking, Thunder!

I’m still in the alleys, and that’s okay!

That’s great! It’s always a good thing for us when you spend time in alleys 😉

Thank you! The best is that everyone is on the main streets. It’s so quiet in the alleys. Cars are the only things to watch out for!

That’s a wonderful thing, for sure.

Terrific photo, Dale. I think your boost worked. 😀

Thank you, John. Such a tiny boost but it had to be as histrionic as possible 😉

Nature surely is going through something, given these histrionic colors! 🙂 Nicely done! 🙂

Thank you, Rene. I just didn’t want to do the version of histrionics everyone else did 😉 Count on me to go as far outside or to the edge of the box as I can.

You always do a great response to the challenges, my mind goes blank and who is better at histrionics than me? 🥰🌷
LikeLiked by 1 person
Aww thanks, Rene. I’m often surprised. I started going the expected or obvious route then looked up the definition in case it inspired me otherwise. And it did.
I somehow doubt you are… Course, we can all have our moments! 💞🌻

Haha, I can be a real drama queen but I’m reading self help books. 😊🥰

Hahaha! My husband was one and so is my youngest. I may have had my moments… Not that often, though. 😘

Lol, a drama queen husband. and son. Mine is cool as a cucumber and it’s a good thing. There can only be so many in one household. 🍁🤗

I agree. One per household is more than enough 😉

Thank you, Crispina. I boosted it just a bit for the purposes of this prompt. It didn’t need much.

We all do it (or maybe some don’t?) Sometimes it’s needed 🙂

Absolutely. I’ll brightennor darken but usually don’t play too much – well… Unless I want my picture to more ressemble yours 😉
LikeLiked by 1 person
I only tweak as need be… just to brighten what’s usually a dull English day.

I’m the same. Unless I am purposefully looking for a special effect to go with something particular 😉

I did post a photo to Twitter Tuesday with a filter on a sunset.. cos I wanted a dreamy scene. But it’s unusual for me to do that
LikeLiked by 1 person
And there is nothing wrong with that. I love playing with my images to get a mood or feeling.

I might lighten, brighten or darken them, but I very seldom use an obvious filter (unlikie many people on Twitter)

Same. And if I do, it’s for a specific desired effect, not to make my pictures look fake 😉
LikeLiked by 1 person
I don’t want my photos to look fake. Although in the past I have done ‘arty’ types of images drawn from my photos. But that’s different
LikeLiked by 1 person
Neither do I. There is nothing wrong with arty photos. Those ones are usually obviously manipulated and are art of another kind. I follow this one woman who does amazing manipulations. Beautiful. And you know it’s not a photo that is just boosted to look more than it is. It is a work of art.

Great use of the prompt, Dale, and a lovely sideways looked at colours we call “loud”. When Nature has her way with loud colours, the effect is staggering – especially for me right now since I have just had a cataract operation and the scenes of my life have changed to sharpness and vivid colour.

I love the contrast you’ve provided for this spell you concocted. The brilliance of a peaceful flow on the one side of the water, and the crash, boom and scream of all that histrionics on the other side of it. And so that middle, with the placid, easy feeling of an smooth surface that your mind can swim inside of. Perfect!
And yes, I mean, the timing of it all. In a year of not so great timing, every now and then you get luck with the stuff huh?

B,
I kind of wish I had gone that route. I mean keeping it all within Mother Nature’s bounty.
So glad you like.
And yeah. In this year of histrionics of another kind, we need that calm respite.

It was, the idea of clashing and crashing as your contrast to this beautifully peaceful capture.
The respite, yes, we need plenty of the respite.
