Weekend Writing Prompt #200 – Vista

A word prompt to get your creativity flowing this weekend.  How you use the prompt is up to you.  Write a piece of flash fiction, a poem, a chapter for your novel…anything you like.  Or take the challenge below – there are no prizes – it’s not a competition but rather a fun writing exercise.  If you want to share what you come up with, please leave a link to it in the comments.  Must be feeling the urge to travel… Thanks for hosting, Sammi!

Clear as day

you can see it

yet you’ve never been

you dream

you plan

you finally go

you open the door

the vista before you

leaves you breathless

          • It’s funny. A friend of mine is the same. We lost our husbands three years apart and after her husband died, she went for 3 months. The following year for one month. Covid buggered up last year but she has her ticket booked for fall… she is definitely planning on moving there one day!

And who knows what the future holds?

          • We know know what is waiting for us.
Florida isn’t for everyone, but it is perfect for me. I was able to retire young, so I don’t have to worry about working or driving to work, so it is easy for me.

Best of luck to you and your friend. I do hope you find the place that makes your heart happy.

          • That’s the thing. Finding what works for us is what is important. I am so ready to retire (mentally, that is)…

Linda will succeed, no doubt. I have yet to reach the same level of desire as she has.

          • You know. After Mick died I made the decision that NO MORE was I going to wait to do things I want to do. NO MORE was I going to wait for someone to keep me company to do the things I want to do, (You know, like dining out on Valentine’s Day alone 😉 ) but mostly, to see plays, movies, whatever; travel, go for a drive, take the day to photograph.
You know first hand that life is too short; I know it from my losses – way too many already.
And thank you. For sure I will be sharing!

          • Dale, I had a bad break up years ago. I decided to live me life. I go out every Valentine’s Day. I go on vacation all the time. I am actually living very happily alone. Less headaches. AND I DO WHAT I WASN’T TO DO.

Sure, I play with the whole Lonely Author thing…..but honestly, I am very happy.

          • I’m with you 100%, Drew. I was one who was so uncomfortable by myself, feeling I NEEDED to be with someone. Turns out that no. I needed to learn who I was and what my needs were. I no longer miss anything I have my heart set on doing, I will put it out there that I’m going, if anyone is interested but trust me, I don’t wait long before I get my ticket 🙂

That very first trip alone to Tuscany changed my life. I will never be afraid to go it alone again.

And I understand that you are and you play with your public persona 🙂

  1. Beautifully said and done. Dale, I’ve been reading through the comments and can’t believe that your dream trip to Tuscany was that long ago! Your courage, hope and resilience shine through your replies. ❤️

You must get there again, no doubt about it. For the food, for the vista and for the soulful hug you’ll feel when you’re back in the place of your dreams. I imagine when this COVID life is over, you will book passage and grab that vista back. 🙂

  3. Agree, you want to travel, view vistas as gorgeous as the one through the door. It’s almost future shock.
Your thoughts reveal what many feel right now. Soon Thunder, soon!
Right now it’s all in the dream phase.
