Weekend Writing Prompt #203 – Absurd

A word prompt to get your creativity flowing this weekend.  How you use the prompt is up to you.  Write a piece of flash fiction, a poem, a chapter for your novel…anything you like.  Or take the challenge below – there are no prizes – it’s not a competition but rather a fun writing exercise.  If you want to share what you come up with, please leave a link to it in the comments.  Fun word to play with and I went a little silly 😉 Thank you, Sammi!

Hey, what’s this?

I’ve decided to become an artist.

Really? Just like that?

Indeedy.

What type of art are you attempting?

Not attempting. Doing.  And I’ve decided that I don’t like too many details so I’ve chosen Absurd Art.

You mean Abstract.

What?

It’s called Abstract.

Says who?

Everyone who knows anything about art, that’s who.

Dang. Now I feel absurd.

  1. There is a lot of absurd art and music in the world. Like “Two Stepping To Nowhere”. Then there’s abstract expressionless, and Cubinism not to be confused with Cubanism. I prefer a bit of daily Dadaism over sadism or yogaism, but sometimes I can’t tell much difference between the three. Now isn’t that simply absurd? BTW I love your minimalist, abstract expressionist photo.

  2. Dear Dale,

Have I not told you. You’re an artist with the lens. It’s absurd for you to think otherwise. 😉 That’s my story and I’m sticking to it. Love the dialogue. Made me laugh.

    Shalom and lotsa abstract hugs,

    Rochelle

    • Right? So glad you agree!! Thank you, Jan. I have to admit I really like that photo in all its variations. Turned out way better than I anticipated.

I’m sure there is a place for both! But I love your take on it, and abstract is the only kind of art I could ever have seen myself doing . . since I had zero skills when it came to painting anything other than walls.

  4. DALE! I wrote a question about perception and reality on FB, and your pictures perfectly reflect what I am thinking. We see reality, but not in its pure form. Everything is blurred and we are left interpreting what we experience, frequently colored with too much emotion, and not enough information.

Keep taking the photos. They are stunning.

I am now going to see if I can share your blog on FB.

    • Yes! And I responded to that question 😁
I love that you feel my photos reflect what you were thinking.

I will and I thank you.

Oh! How sweet are you? Thank you for trying!

  5. LOVE!!! Your Absurd is the word!
I’d say my Gowntoons art is more on the absurd side than abstract.
“extremely silly or ridiculous absurd humor.” Love it! ⚡️💥
    Drown me in your absurdity!
