Purple Preoccupation – Friday Fictioneers

It’s Wednesday. It’s time to try to write a 100-word story with beginning, middle and end using this picture as inspiration. Some days a bunch of ideas get jumbled together only to be tossed aside by an earworm. Go figure. Sometimes, you just gotta go with the flow! If you want to play along, just click on my singing frog below and add your link. G’head, you know you wanna….

Yeah, I guess you could say that.

Why?

See that picture up there?

Yeah, so?  Ohhhh… lemme guess.  Rochelle’s prompt?

Yeah. Had an idea about the results of an eye operation left me seeing all things purple.

Sounds lame.

Right. So?

  1. Lots of purple here. I have a parody of Purple Rain called Purple Stain inspired by Holly. She tried to sing it but she said she couldn’t stop laughing long enough to get it recorded. I recorded it.

  2. Good one, Dale! Jacqui Murray had a post up today about a genre that consists of exactly 100 words with a beginning, middle, and end. She called it “Drabble.” You just Drabbled really well! 🙂

  3. That was really fun!
Now, I’m a bit of a musical black hole, so I’m spared the earworms – apart from Purple Rain. But not for long. I’m about to look up the other songs!
Thanks for a really smiley piece and Happy Birthday! xx

    • Thank you, Jenne! You’ve just given me the idea (or rather, I had it but then didn’t do it) to link the songs!
Thank you for the birthday with and I’m really glad I provided a smiley piece! xo

  4. Would you believe me if I said I hadn’t really noticed the purple in the picture? I have now though… and enough ear worms to last well beyond Friday! One day you should write the purple-seeing surgery story, just to see where it goes.

    • Yes, I would. There are times people focus on a part of a picture and I’ll be like… I didn’t see that!
      I made sure of that, didn’t I? Apologies 😉
      I might do a two-fer this week 😉

  5. Hehehe. I love this. Purple rain was the first thing that came to my mind, too, when I saw the picture. And now it’s playing in my head again…

  6. Q

I shall title this post “Purple Reign”. What is it about purple that has us feeling so special? Maybe it’s the royal lineage of the stuff, since ancient navies warred over the stuff. And so its apt to have such romance for the color. It’s one of those colors deserving of an ode, like this one, as you would most certainly attest seeing as how you gone and done just that.

But I won’t. And I mean . . I totally refuse to put that song in my head. I had Dolly Parton streaming through it just now and Imma turn her up and pretend I never heard of this purple song you write of! 😉

  8. Dear Dale,

I’ll see your earworms and raise you another purple song that just happens to be my ringtone.
And I admit that the purple in the picture might have caught my eye. 😉 So not sorry. 😀 I enjoyed your story.

    Shalom and lotsa violet hugs,

    Rochelle

  9. Good one! I didn’t see the purple until you mentioned it. I just saw poor museum lighting. Great story, though. hehe! I wonder if Lucy’s diamonds had a purple glow. LOL!

  10. Wonderful, Dale. I thought about using the purple too, but decided not to–too many words to incorporate it into my story. So glad you did, and so beautifully. I’m sure Rochelle got a laugh out of it!

  11. Fortunately for me, Purple Rain is the only one of those songs I know well enough to get stuck in my head. It finds its way into my head at random anyway.

Purple seems to be a favorite for many. My roommate, who is a big fan of The Purple One thus ↑, had me paint her room half purple. One time when I gave blood, the phlebotomist gave me a purple wrap and said, “Purple’s my favorite color. It’s yours now, too.” 🤨

    • Very fortunately for you, you don’t know the first one!

It is not my favourite colour but I definitely like it in all it’s shades. Too funny re your roommate and the blood sucker 😉

  12. So, what’s the purple of all this?
    To make me laugh? ✅
To drive me mad with ear worms ✅
To chuckle at driving worms ✅
To reconsider getting that eye operation ✅
Hmm, I see now a lot of purplposes.
    Thanks Purple Thunder!
