Weekend Writing Prompt #205 – Uncanny

A word prompt to get your creativity flowing this weekend.  How you use the prompt is up to you.  Write a piece of flash fiction, a poem, a chapter for your novel…anything you like.  Or take the challenge below – there are no prizes – it’s not a competition but rather a fun writing exercise.  If you want to share what you come up with, please leave a link to it in the comments. Thank you, Sammi, for hosting this challenge.

It is uncanny

and never fails

(well, almost never)

he enters her thoughts

she reaches for her phone

and before she presses a button

there comes the familiar ping

and there he is

how to explain such a connection?

  1. Dear Dale,

It’s amazing how we develop those connections, isn’t it? Like having a song running through your head and the next thing you know, it comes across the radio. Wonderful 39 words. Stellar photo.

    Shalom and lotsa blooming hugs,

    Rochelle

    • Dear Rochelle,

It really is. I have a friend that, it never fails, I don’t hear from him for months, I have a thought, tell myself I will call him later and within the half hour, he calls me. Thank you. I was so pleased to come upon these white magnolia during my run/walk!

      Shalom and lotsa uncanny love,

      Dale

Eez cool when the ping is like that. But have you made certain there is no voodoo or surveillance camera business going on with the other end of the line? Seems a tad bit coincidental that the ping works so mystically. Hmmmmm. 😉

  3. I had ‘this’ connection with my youngest sister, who died tomorrow a month ago, on the day of our wedding anniversary. I also had it with my ex-best-friend whom I called three times (out of the blue) from abroad and every time she told me that she just really, really needed me NOW…. So your story rings more than a bit true!
Much love – I hope to be more present in the future (if THAT isn’t a super title for a story I don’t know what is!) 🙂
