Why Bother?

It is Quadrille Monday on dVerse!  Today’s hostess is De Jackson (aka WhimsyGizmo) who has asked us to write our 44-word poem using the word bother in some way, shape or form.  De is  Being bothered seems to be second nature to many of us moms… just sayin’…

Why Bother?

“Thanks for soups, Mamz.”

“Yeah, it was great!”

And before I know it

they’ve flown off their chairs

mouths still chewing that last bite

Why do I bother?

Would it kill them to just once

offer to clean the dishes

without me hounding them?

  1. Dear Dale,

Sigh. I know this one. The aftermath of a good meal, followed by the scurrying off of the recipients. Bless their pointed little heads. Well written in any event.

    Shalom and lotsa tasteful hugs,

    Rochelle

    • Dear Rochelle,

I know you do. Wouldn’t it be nice if they stayed and chatted? I’m sure once they move out and come by for dinner and don’t have a bedroom to go to they will… right? I thank you 🙂

      Shalom and lotsa appreciative love,

      Dale

  2. That’s a great looking dish. Kids and cats, what can you say? I ask the cats if they could help with cleanup and kitty litter. They just look at me like “WTF?”

  3. Yeah. The food looks great. My kids never washed dishes. The other day my son, the dishwasher in his house, asked me how that affected me. Back when I was washing dishes it was just what I expected I’d be doing. Now I have Lean Cuisine for supper.

    • Thank you, Ina. Why is that? You didn’t let them or you just didn’t bother pushing them? Interesting that your son asks today what you thought then.
Lean Cuisine… surely you can find better? 🙂

  4. It never occurred to me to ask them to wash dishes. My son washes dishes because his wife cooks and he cleans up. Different generation. I like Lean Cuisine because of the variety and simplicity. I’m not a foodie or a cook by nature and I’m definitely out of step with the food world these days.

  5. Yes, it probably would kill them.
Never had kids, but it still “kills” me to do the dishes.
I HATE my dishwasher, and now use it as a pots and pans cupboard.
Then again, I don’t shovel snow, deal with the furnace or any basement issues (like when Toronto had the big flood), repair appliances and other large annoying must do’s.

    I like hair do’s. ⚡️💥
