A Word For Wednesday

I knew I could count on Marc to say beautiful words.

Be Sorry . . . Less

The dog is a gentleman; I hope to go to his heaven, not mans
-Mark Twain

I told Dale I would post today’s entry because I just do not want to let Wednesday go wordless. Not this Wednesday.

Zeke passed into the mystic on Tuesday afternoon. And as with any brilliant light, the end came much too soon. Because it is always too soon to say goodbye to such a cherished companion. She referred to him as a beautiful beast yesterday and a more fitting description you will not find.Β He lived a wonderful life as evidenced by this montage pieced together by the love of his life.

Good night, sweet prince.

  1. That is so sad. It is much too soon. Zeke was so beautiful. We are having to write too many tributes these days.

    • Thank you, Jan. He was. Marc did a fabulous job – I knew he would find the beautiful words. He always does.
      You are so sweet.

    • I know what you mean but don’t feel it is not appropriate. I thank you for your lovely comforting thoughts. Zeke is surely learning the ropes from Sam. πŸ’”

    The Rainbow Bridge

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to the Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends, so they can play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to good health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them, in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing: they miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes, his eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous union, never to be parted again.
The happy kisses reign upon your face, your hands again caress his beloved face, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your beloved friend: so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then, you cross together over the Rainbow Bridge.

  3. Oh Dale, I am so very very sorry. Dogs love unconditionally, and leave such a hole when they leave us. It’s been almost six months since we lost Maggie, and it still hurts so very much.
My thoughts are with you. Zeke was beautiful.

    • Thank you, Di. They take up so much space, how can there not be a hole? I seem to recall you mentioning her passing. I bet it still hurts.
Thank you again. He was a handsome fella..

      • It hurts so much Dale, and is not getting any better I’m afraid. We are hoping to find a new furbaby but that seems to be easier said than done. Zeke was beautiful. I wasn’t aware he’d been ill. I’m sorry I missed that.

        • I understand. I am not getting another. The chances of finding one as good-natured, non-barking, gentle as Zeke are very slim.
He wasn’t so much ill as his hind legs decided to not work so well. And it was getting harder and harder for him to stand up and walking – he dragged his back paws. Was painful to watch.

  4. Even though the pain, I know you know that a full heart is always better than an empty one. May there be many good memories. Always.
    And smiling through the tears.

    • Thank you, Eliza. It took me two weeks to work up the courage to finally call. But he deserved to keep his dignity. He was such a noble and gentle soul. Well received, thank you! πŸ’ž

  5. I’m So sorry for your loss, Dale.
It’s so hard to say goodbye to our precious pets that love us so unconditionally .
Last week I had to let my sweet dog Tide go after 14 years. It will take a while to get over his absence but like you I’ll never forget his sweet ways. Take care dearest Dale. I’m thinking of you.

  6. Oh my!
He is such a sweetie. I never actually met him, but could tell from the pics you’d post of him.
He is such a handsome boy!
I still miss all of my kitties that are gone. It’s so hard to leave the love and warmth they gave me, so I suppose I linger on a bit, now and again.
    I suppose you will too.
Darn this salty discharge coming from my eyes!!!
    Love you, Thunder!

I’ll be back! I need to sober up here. Think I’ll do some dishes.
