Just an Illusion

How do you do that?

Do what?

Balance it all. Get everything done.

Wherever did you get that idea?

I watch you. I see.  You seem to have a handle on everything.

Ha ha! Trust me, I don’t. It may look like it but oh, hell no. I do not. Not even close!

I think you’re pulling my leg. Tell me how you do it.

Listen to me. And don’t look too closely.  I am the queen of illusion. I flit, I dance, it’s all smoke and mirrors.

Fake it till you make it?

More like baffle them with bullshit.

  6. Yes, better an illusion than obvious delusion. In many ways you have described how we all find balance in our lives, sometime we know we are just kidding but that is fun of being alive. You believe everyone else is also in the same situation but handle it better. Lovely ideas put across here.

    • Thank you, James. It’s true, isn’t it? I like to think most of us are just doing our best and those who are seemingly perfectly organised are probably not living life!

          • I hear ya, Dale. I was ready long before I actually retired 😉 Some of that was financial, of course, and some would say I didn’t make the most sensible decision. But we’re getting older. Time is not on our side, so … here’s to living frugally 🙂

          • I’ll never understand those who plan to never retire. I got a small taste by working in a golf club for four seasons which gave me November to May off with employment insurance… I much like that – not working and money coming in – woot! Sensible, schmensible… 🙂

          • One of my aunts (RIP Aunt Edith) used to work at General Electric Schenectady, New York. Every year she would be laid off for a couple of months, collect unemployment, then be hired back. She loved it. Made sense to me 🙂

  13. I dread perfectly organised, much rather be in a bit of a state and trying to catch up. I used to be good at the paddling-like-mad swan at work but people just gave me more to do! I really like your imaginative take on the photo.

    • As do I. Actually, can we truly trust one who is? 😉 I was going to use the paddling-like-mad thing in this piece 😉 Ran out of words… And yes, I fear we end up with more than we would like when we seem to get it all done. I’ve stopped being that person. Glad you did!

    Illusions are preferable sometimes, I think we can agree on that. Because let’s face it, there’s nothing wrong with having people believe what they are probably going to believe. And I find there’s usually truth in there somewhere, so let ’em have their perception, I say. And if there is some baffling being done, it don’t mean there’s not a lot of balancing. In fact, I think the peeps who feel as if they’re faking it till they make it are trying harder than most to make it. So there’s actually no fake involved.

      Stupid computer froze so I have to try and recompose my response. Using my phone. Ugh.

      Those who seem perfectly organised, perfectly coiffed, perfectly right are most often perfectly miserable. So there’s that. You know I go by that whole what other people think is none of my business…
      And baffling and faking it till you make it does mean there is work being done.

        Perfectly said. And yes, they want you to believe something . . while at the same time trying to convince themselves as well. Never works.

        I think peeps who (Not saying who 😉 think they’re baffling with bullshit are just being hard on themselves because they care so much. Just saying.

  18. This is great and so true for so many of us. What a great insight. t’s also a relief for those of us who stare at the ‘perfect’ people and suffer from impostor syndrome..

      • They probably define fun differently. I once dared to get a better grade in a subject than one of the perfect people who always aced everything… she was eaten up by jealousy, it wasn’t pretty. And I’m the least ambitious person you can imagine. And lazy.

        • I’m sure they do (if they know how to have it in the first place). Hah! Good for you! Proof that it’s all about them. Jealousy is such a waste of energy….

      • C’était très intèressant. C’était ce qu’on appelle les classes préparatoires (So French) aux écoles de Commerce. 2 ans de “cramming” avant de passer les concours aux business schools. Des tonnes de maths, de langues, d’histoire-géo et de sciences humaines. Le programme était fait par les chambres de commerce. Je me suis toujours demandé comment ils avaient choisi le thème de l’illusion pour les sciences humaines, so Non-business like.

  23. We fantasize ourselves being someone else and later we realise we are paralysed. I guess this is relatable for many of us ……
