A word prompt to get your creativity flowing this weekend. How you use the prompt is up to you. Write a piece of flash fiction, a poem, a chapter for your novel…anything you like. Or take the challenge below – there are no prizes – it’s not a competition but rather a fun writing exercise. If you want to share what you come up with, please leave a link to it in the comments. Almost didn’t play and then something came to me… must be my circumstances what done it…
It started with one
Then one begot another
And another
“It’s unusual,” they say.
“Don’t worry.”
Yet, it hasn’t stopped
A silent crescendo
that grows and grows
Piling up
Engulfing me
Burying me.
I must get out
This is terrific, Dale. Well done.

The mountains we don’t intend to climb,
Yet pile up.
This is well penned, my friend.

Or the mountains we get buried under… either way, unintended!
Thank you, my friend

Indeed … we do not intend to climb them … and end up buried by them, unprepared, for no one can be thus prepared. … xoxo

Maybe a decrescendo will give us the strength to get out! 😉
Love it, Dale.

Dear Rochelle,
Just posted late Monday night so 😉. And it is my office pile! Both at home and at work! Oy. Twice.
Lotsa love,

I can hear the crescendo building… just waiting for the cymbals! Locked in tight by the rising violins, and the cellos provide no release. The bass rumbles through my chest and the piano beats on my mind.

As I read your well crafted post, I could feel the intensification and buildup of the prompt word. Extremely well done, Dale!

First things first, the two words you have added to the files. Welp, you can guess one of them but do you know the other one you just came up with? No hints or clues, you’re the expert here, you’ll get it. I know you will. 😉
Okay, I felt a crescendo! From bothersome to something much more than that to actually feeling myself buried inside the frustration of it all. Yikes! That is actually quite frightening to me, so true to what happens when you allow something that is nagging to take control and then before you know it . . . cue the organ music!

B,
Lemme see… begot? the prompt word crescendo? Certainly not engulf, then again… jeez now I’m questioning everything!
I have to say I am glad you felt the crescendo – I wanted it to not be music-related but at the same time feel it build to that point that, to be honest, is rather frightening to me, too.
Glad you liked?

Ding! Ding! DING!
You got ’em both, because of course you did! And hey . . engulf is on the bench . . it might yet work its way in to the File! I have to be a little more stringent seeing as how plump the File has become. But just a wee bit more stringent so . .
I did feel the crescendo, how can you not? Music, reality, both . . just that idea . . it’s very Macbeth. You know something’s coming and you know it ain’t gonna be good . . .
You know I do 😉

Woot! Woot!
Aww shucks. Engulf ain’t a bad one to consider, I agree. And I understand. That file is rather plump… stringent, eh? That HAS to already be in the file 😉
Excellent. You know, I felt rather meh about this one. So.. yanno. This is great 🙂
I think so 🙂

No it ain’t. And it will eventually get in. Our File is like the Hall of Fame, it just needs to construct more wings is all. But being on the bench is a very good sign.
Stringent, ironically IS in the File.
Meh is not in the file. While it has a certain “okay” (in the File) quality to it, its rather negative connotation has so far kept it out.
And you shouldn’t have felt meh about this piece At all. Seriously. Don’t make me breakout the shades.
🙂

I’ve no doubt it will. It is a fantabulous File. Being on the bench is very good.
I thought it was!
Meh should not be in the file. It has no place there.
Thank you. You are the sweetest. No shades necessary. I’ll be good.

And it means the word is only one phone call away from acceptance into the File.
Uh huh!
Nope. Too negative.
Umm . . I ain’t touching that one. LOL

I see from the comments that others have interpreted your words in other ways. But I see it as the despair and/or horror at the build-up of death. Death is a fact of life, yet in the past 18 months it has built to a crescendo that is certainly frightening. I say hold on. For there is a rainbow and we will reach its end. 🙂

That’s what’s so great about the relationship between readers and writers. I love that not everyone sees the same thing. Death is definitely a part of life and I should rather that crescendo happen later 😉 Hoping there is a decrescendo for you. A pause, if you will.
