A word prompt to get your creativity flowing this weekend. How you use the prompt is up to you. Write a piece of flash fiction, a poem, a chapter for your novel…anything you like. Or take the challenge below – there are no prizes – it’s not a competition but rather a fun writing exercise. If you want to share what you come up with, please leave a link to it in the comments. Thank you, Sammi, for hosting!
Time for a walk, I’m short on steps
Outside my door, one tiny phlox,
a vivid purple, demands my attention
It succeeds. I photograph it and turn
right into the rain I hadn’t noticed
Big, fat drops bounce off the hot pavement
releasing petrichor
delighting my nose
God, I love that scent!
I breathe deep and keep walking
Turning the corner, a bright white cloud
Can white be vivid?
it is so bright
over there, while
thunder cracks
over here
I jump over puddles, laughing
all the way home
Oh yes! I hope you jumped IN some too.

What a great description of your morning. 🙂 And yes, I think white can be vivid, even if you and I are the only ones who think so.

Thank you, Gigi. And doesn’t that cloud look particularly so? I took it from under the canopy of a tree since it was raining so hard where I was!

What a fun outing! The song immediately came to mind, “just singing in the rain.” Great response to the prompt, Dale!

What a beautiful summer walk! And the Gene Kelly vibe mingling with Thoreau as you amble (Where’d I get that word from again?) into the sweet embrace of a summer’s late afternoon, evening . . it was the perfect way to stroll. Imagine NOT getting this out of summer? Imagine just bitching and moaning about the heat without taking a breath and drinking in the best of it too?
After which we can bitch and moan about the heat! 😉

Thank you… Gene and Thoreau… I like it. (Hmmm… I wonder…) Summer ambles/strolls/meanders are meant to happen with or without the raindrops, I say. It would be a very sad thing to not get this out of summer because you are right, not taking a breath and drinking the best of it would be a tragedy.
And we’ll always find a time to bitch and moan about the heat… 😉

Me twice! 😉
I agree with this. When it’s calling to you, you take the call, and then you get to stepping . . short on steps or not.
It would be very wrong, no doubt about it.
Because it’s the right thing to do! LOL

I should think so!
Oh yes. Shortness of steps can be the incentive to go out there when you hesitate (and then wonder why you did in the first place because it is so wonderful).
At the very least, it would be sad…
Of course! What’s the point if you can’t find stuff to bitch about?

Uh huh.
I don’t dig those days when I’m short on steps though. I like getting them rolled early on and then having gravy points.
True.

I don’t either. Big time. Get the biggest chunk in before work is best!
