Not the Crown I Want

It’s Quadrille Monday on dVerse – which just so happens to be one of my favourite of the prompts.  A 44-word poem? Count me in! De Jackson aka WhimsyGizmo is hosting and she wants us to use the word Crown.  While walking around Old Montreal yesterday, I snapped this bicycle, thinking it would make for an interesting fun subject one day.  Who knew I would use it so soon? It can be part of the fun project of using one photo with a short text or this.  Or both!

They say I’m next in line
That it is meant to be
I fear I must decline
There’ll be no crown for me

With a bicycle of gold
I shall set myself free
For the ruling days of old
Were never meant for me

  1. *smiling* Always opt for freedom and trade the golden crown in for a golden two-wheeler: what could go wrong, except people stopping you for pix! I love this take on the prompt, Dale. 😀

        • Nah. I ain’t that cool. Cycling is great. Bought myself a new one this year, matter of fact! I had trouble with my knees this year. Weirdly could run but could not bike.

          • 1) Having the seat set too low or too high will cause knee pain. 2) You might also have alignment problems. In that case you would need pedals and shoes with cleats and have them properly aligned to keep your knees straight. Cycling should be easy on your knees compared to running.

          • If you decide to ride a lot they are a must. If you are joy riding, not so much. I have a hard time riding without cleats. I’m always pulling my feet of the pedals on the upstrokes because I’m used to being cleated in and pulling up on the petals as much as I’m pushing down.

          • Since I’m not used to it, it doesn’t bother me 😉 I’m afraid I’ll break my neck, being clipped to the pedals!
And I don’t think I’ll ever be that much of a biker. I might go on an occasional long ride but on the regular? Don’t love it that much. I don’t have a little kit to wear either 😉

  2. A very smooth poem, and a touch of pathos about the bicycle, even if is gold! You knit that altogether very nicely, right back from the original photograph…

  3. That is beautiful photo–that bike is really glowing! And who wouldn’t feel cool on it?

When you give up the burden of ruling, you’ll still probably have a nice pension to keep you in style to go with that bike. 😏

  4. Dear Dale,

That bike makes quite the statement. I love the way you worked it into your 44 words. I wouldn’t want the responsibility of a crown either. A diamond tiara for special occasions perhaps. 😉

    Shalom and lotsa royal hugs,

    • Dear Rochelle,

It does, doesn’t it? So glad you loved what I did with it 😉 I would definitely not want that responsibility. Yes on the diamond tiara, though 😉

      Shalom and lotsa golden love,

      Dale

    Not the crown I want
No we just want to be free
    Off from Canada we ran
From old England, then to Americeee.
No not the crown I want
    I’ll just take the monarchy.😜

  6. Q

Wait . . what? When were you on the set of a James Bond flick? And how cool is that? And okay, was it an auction? Selling off some of Michael Jackson’s things? Inquiring minds want to know.

Love the owner’s style, the color of that lock really sets the whole thing off.

But I wouldn’t want to ride it.

  7. Whew!
Good thing you took a pass on this golden crown.
I mean, how could you possibly get it on your head? Then walking around with it on your brow would be a pain. And your hair would be destroyed.
Cute write, sweet pic for sure! ⚡️💥
