WWP #264 – Picturesque

A word prompt to get your creativity flowing this weekend.  How you use the prompt is up to you.  Write a piece of flash fiction, a poem, a chapter for your novel…anything you like.  Or take the challenge below – there are no prizes – it’s not a competition but rather a fun writing exercise.  If you want to share what you come up with, please leave a link to it in the comments. As a photographer, how could I resist this prompt?  Thank you, Sammi, for hosting this weekly shindig!

Capture

Stop!  Lemme get my camera!

You are such a pain in the ass with wanting to capture every last thing. Every picturesque scene, every little moment.  Why don’t you just enjoy life?

Picturesque. Like it’s a dirty word.  It’s my art.  And I take people, too, smartass.  You’ll thank me one day.  You’ll see.

  1. Non-photographers can just suck it up. Picturesque is how we see things. Have camera will see picturesque. That is a fantastic, picturesque photo.

    • Thank you! This is, apparently, the most photographed house in Cortona (and I actually had a calendar with said house for one of the months) 🙂

    • Right? When I went to my Tuscan cooking class, we stopped her – it is apparently the most photographed house in Cortona.
And thank you for saying such a lovely thing 🙂

    • Thank you, Kathy! So very glad you do! I had a calendar with this very scene. Can you imagine my thrill when we stopped so I could photograph it? And right… or not 😉

  2. Q

Picturesque is a great word because of its versatility and worldliness. You figure, it has the feel of more than one language right on the face of it. The sound rolls off the tongue with the French, and then you hit it with some Italian to boot (pun intended). And don’t forget the Latin, just so’s everyone is well aware of the company this word keeps.

In 54 words at that. Giving it the respect it deserves!

  3. Dear Dale,

Oh you and your eye for composition that sees the world through a picturesque lens. Were your ears burning yesterday when I was telling art show patrons about my Canadian photog friend who has provided many photos that became favorite paintings? Keep snapping, my friend. ❤

Shalom and lotsa well focused hugs,

    Rochelle

  4. Well, of course. It all threads together nicely. The prompt word, the excellent “picturesque’ photo and location, the story, and even the conflict. Well knitted, Dale.

  5. Swoon!! That scene is BRILLIANT!! It’s hard not to love art but it’s good to enjoy the moment too. I say this as both a mom and a professional photographer ❤️
