Weekend Writing Prompt #268 – Year

A word prompt to get your creativity flowing this weekend.  How you use the prompt is up to you.  Write a piece of flash fiction, a poem, a chapter for your novel…anything you like.  Or take the challenge below – there are no prizes – it’s not a competition but rather a fun writing exercise.  If you want to share what you come up with, please leave a link to it in the comments.  Thank you, Sammi, for never closing these prompts so we can use them whenever our whim, whims it.  And when you can’t decide between four photos to represent your word, you put ’em all in 😉

wk 268 year

The years are festooned with events that mark them

Deaths and births

and a bunch of firsts

The good, the bad, the mundane

each have their part in decorating

the years in our timeline

Time is linear,

that’s what we know

weren’t we told?

Time is definitely an illusion. But I love how you are able to line this piece up with images in order to show the line that we use in order to catalogue the passing of people and places and things through our own personal timeline. Because let’s face it, even as an illusion, the moments do remain real. And ours.

Forty-six? You done did a spectacular limbo dance with ’em.

    • Thank you, Monika! I started and restared, flushed and restarted again… Lawzy… The images, as I mentioned, I could not decide so, hey! And glad you like 🙂

  2. I love the sense of this and the séance feel of reading it, Dale. I want to add words about circular seasons turning on the linear lines of time and life.

Your poem brought to mind my favorite bible lines from Ecclesiastes 3:1-8, (the few I have) and an anonymous poem of the same name.

    Well done.

Sorry so late on this. It’s been busy a traveling/family week.

    • Thank you, Bill! That word limit really limits us, eh? I had much more to say…

Well now! You can’t just mention a favourite bible line and not gimme the lines (I have a bible in a box, somewhere…)

There is no such thing as late. I’m just appreciative that you took the time to stop by and leave your (always) interesting comment. Travelling/family is always first!

  3. Deep… I like that side of you, Thunder.
I like the funny side of you, too. Well, seems I like all of you! xoxoxo

… and yes, time is linear. That is until I figure out how to time travel.
