It’s Gonna Be a Bumpy Ride – Friday Fictioneers

Hello my peeps.  Lovely to see you on this first hump day in August.  How it is already August when July was barely a day long is beyond me, but I digress.  Rochelle may be off cavorting in the ocean on vacay but she still manages to host this weekly shindig.  She is a rockstar, eh?  When I saw this photo by the super-talented Sandra Crook, I knew exactly where I wanted to go.  Then I remembered (vaguely) that I was pretty sure I had written about this experience before. Dang it!  A search revealed that I did.  Back in June, 2017.  Wait… back in 2017… who the hell is gonna remember it anyhow, right?  Right.  And, hey, it happens that others repost old stuff.  This is more of a rearranging.  Apologies to those who do remember it.  I was surprised to see the number of Fictioneers from then who are still around today.  Hope the newbies enjoy… If you’ve got an idea for a 100-word original story, then by all means, do click on the frog below and add your link.  G’head. It’s fun 🙂

“Total gridlock, Mon, in Sint Maarten! We’re gonna miss the boat!”

The walkie-talkie crackled with Sébastien’s voice.  “If I make a move, you guys gonna follow?”

“Hah!  Go?  There’s nowhere to go!”  Mick grumbled.

Karl’s voice came on, “We’re in!”

Suddenly Sébastien’s jeep, followed closely by Karl’s, passed us on the left.  On the sidewalk.  People scurried out of the way.

“Are they stupid?”

“You best be stupid, too, if you don’t wanna miss the boat!”  I yelled.  The song “Bumpy Ride” came on the radio. Serendipity? A sign?

“Put the music up louder!”

“Whoo hoo!  Go, Daddy, Go!”

  1. I am going to hazard a guess sidewalk driving is not for the faint of heart. I have never tried it myself, although on occasion I have been tempted to give it a go. Maybe I hesitate because I know it’s going to be…a bumpy ride. (nice song selection, Dale!)

  2. Is that a bottle of tequila I see on the seat? That kind of daredevil antics usually involves alcohol… Hope they all survive to see the boat. Exciting adventure story, Dale.

  3. Great story. It reminds me when I was in Naples, Italy in #### (not giving away my age. Lol). I always told people after that that “If you don’t like the traffic, get off the sidewalks.” I almost got run over on a sidewalk while snagging some pizza & wine.

Proof positive that sometimes you have got to dial up the stupid in order to get where you wanna be. And in this case, it was more than proper to abide by the handbook. And I mean, you had a great excuse for doing so.

I think when a song comes on the radio that perfectly captures the moments you are going through, it’s as if the universe is tapping you on the shoulder and letting you know that every little thing is gonna be alright. And maybe it’s not true, but here’s the thing. You can’t prove it’s NOT true, so as far as I’m concerned . . . 😉

  5. Well, it’s all new to me, Dale.
Fun story, and who wants t miss the boat anyway? I hate the phrase, “that boat already sailed.”
Well done, of course, again. 🙂

    • I figured it would be new to quite a few 😉 And honestly, unless a story is spectacular, it ain’t gonna be remembered! Though we who almost did miss the boat will never forget it 😉
I hate hate that expression almost as much as “It is what it is…”
      And I thank you.

        • The list is rather long… 😉
“At the end of the day”…
but my BIGGEST pet peeve, locutionly speaking? Is those who tag on “you understand?” or “you know what I mean?” at the end of every fucking sentence…
Yes, I understand. I am not a complete eejit.

  6. Dear Dale,

Nothing wrong with sharing the oldies. Five years ago already? But then You joined before I retired and that’s been nearly 7 years. Times fun when you’re having flies innit?
Wild ride that. Glad you made it in time. AND glad you found your way to Friday Fictioneers. 😀 ❤

Shalom and lotsa plain old hugs.

    • Dear Rochelle,

No, I know. But I did change it up, at least 😉

      Me too and me too!

      Shalom and lotsa love,

      Dale

    • It was very crazy and yes, thankfully we made the boat. You are right, Mick and I did. And he does love to be my muse for us to keep on 🙂 👸✨
