Weekend Writing Prompt #102 – Impress

I almost did not participate this week.  However, today seems a good day to give thanks to those who might not realise that their actions, words, their just being them, mean to me.  I feel much love.

A word prompt to get your creativity flowing this weekend.  How you use the prompt is up to you.  Write a piece of flash fiction, a poem, a chapter for your novel…anything you like.  Or take the challenge below – there are no prizes – it’s not a competition but rather a fun writing exercise.  If you want to share what you come up with, please leave a link to it in the comments.  Thank you, Sammi, for hosting this weekly challenge.  It’s one of my favourites.

Word Prompt

Impress

Challenge

There is something more than special about finding and being with people who get you

The ones who take you as you are with all your warts and idiosyncracies

They love you when you laugh and join in on your silliness

They love you when you cry and not only offer their shoulder but cry with you

You don’t have to impress them with anything material

You don’t have to put on airs and pretend to be someone you are not

To you, dear ones, who have given me time, muscles, spirit, space

Know your love for me is impressed deeply in my heart

Word Prompt

Charlatan

Challenge

First of fifteen
She’d not be swayed
None shall I have!
She vehemently said
Yet, at twenty-four
A fourth! No, oh dread!

Determined was she
To end this misfortune
Doctor could help
Illegal abortion
The place was so filthy
She recoiled in aversion

A charlatan is he
She turned to flee
Thank goodness
Because
My mother and me
Would never be!

you think you will get into my good graces

pretending to be someone you are not

charming me with your fabulousness

insincerity dripping from your tongue

what you haven’t the sense to understand is

this is anathema to me

give me your honest, goofy, true self

authenticity, with all its foibles

Word Prompt

Impervious

Challenge

For the first time, my drafts folder has come in handy for a challenge. I remembered writing something that might fit this word prompt and with a little tweak and adjustment have made it work. Moments like these come and go with each of my two at various times and I don’t suppose I shall ever not have some form of this in my future.  Motherhood is a challenge I, at times, feel very ill-equipped for.

Your anger is your shield
An act to show you don’t care
Impervious and indestructable you
I know It’s all a big lie
Nothing but an act of bravado

I try to hug you when you hurt
You recoil to push me away
It’s not that I don’t want it, you say
I don’t need it
A sign of weakness, you think

It is so hard to be your mother
To not feel inadequate at times
All I want is for you to know
That all I want is your happiness
To know I love you as you are

Weekend Writing Prompt #97 – Equinox

In my usual attempt to try and think outside the box, my father suddenly came to mind… I don’t ask why, I just use what comes 😉

A word prompt to get your creativity flowing this weekend. How you use the prompt is up to you. Write a piece of flash fiction, a poem, a chapter for your novel…anything you like. Thank you, Sammi, for holding this challenge!

Word Prompt

Equinox

Challenge

Thirty-five and living large as per your dreams when you were thirteen

Where once you lived on food-stamps, you now lack for nothing

You had promised yourself one day your life would be very different

Your daughters: seven, ten and thirteen, are your pride and joy

Your wife, at this time, is enjoying the high life you are providing

The trips, the cars, the jewels, the parties

Had you known you were at the equinox of your life

Would you have changed anything?

Quality of photos is crap because all my pictures are in boxes and trying to find something dated around 1977 was no easy task!

Weekend Writing Prompt #96 – Seashore

I promise ya’all, when I have a new house bought and signed for, I shall let go of this obsession… Or will go on and on about my new digs.  So, maybe I cannot make any promises, after all!  Thank you, Sammi, for giving me reasons to work a little harder!

Word Prompt

Seashore

Challenge

Trying not to feel woe is me

Mother, sisters, their families

On a cruise, taking in the sun

While I’m at home, not having much fun

I may feel a little bit sore

Not playing with them by the seashore

But! I might have missed the sale of my house

Now that would be something about which to grouse
