Word Prompt

Replace

Challenge

I’ve been doing these challenges for a good while (Thanks, Sammi, for creating and maintaining it) and never, ever put a title on my whatevs. I thought the total word count had to include the title but, after noting quite a few who do, including our facilitator, I decided, well, hell… let’s do it!

What the Fork is This?

I walk around my home and notice there are missing pieces everywhere. Incomplete sets: cutlery, dishes, glassware. Some breakage happens over time; it’s to be expected.

Yet, somehow cutlery that doesn’t belong here is lying in my drawer. Of course no child of mine left any of my good forks at work and took another in its stead. No, I don’t know what I am talking about. What’s the big deal? The big deal is, the cheap shit you brought back does not replace the good stuff I own.

They make you cry

They make you laugh

They drive you crazy

No longer babies

Soon, they’ll fly away

Still, you hope they know

With you,

They’ll always find

A safe haven

Word Prompt

Ultimatum

Clean your room if you want to go out

Give me better conditions or I’ll work elsewhere

Marry me or I am leaving you

Issuing a demand, the refusal of which

Will result in the end of something

Who reacts well to an ultimatum?

And, if accepted, how can it not affect

The relationship negatively?

It will forever hold a place within

Thank you, Sammi, for making me work hard this week!  Who knew there were so many definitions to “Delicate”?

She wanted to be delicate

She wanted it desperately

She had been taught that meant you were a lady

Feminine

To walk with a bounce in her step

Was not elegant

To be strong was mannish

She always felt less than,

Then

Fast foward forty years

Her definition of delicate

Has changed drastically

She no longer wished to be dainty,

—well, maybe sometimes

She knew she was far from fragile

Would never be muted or subdued

When required, she could be graceful and elegant

Though she still loved her more coarse moments

Life had taught her to be considerate and gentle

And adept

Delicate

Thanks to Sammi for giving me a place to air my grievances on the dating world. Lawzy!  Please excuse my foul language. It was only a snippet of what was thrown at me after I declined his advances and then had to block him.

Some guys just can’t take ‘no’ for an answer.  We met, we had coffee, we even kissed good-bye.  I felt nothing. I was disenchanted.

The guy felt we had a connection.  We didn’t.  I didn’t.

After that date, the exchange went something like this:

“I want to see you again.”

“No, I am sorry.  I’m not interested.”

“I felt a spark.”

“There was no spark. It’s in your mind. You’ve created something out of nothing.”

“Give it time. I’ll convince you.

“I don’t need convincing.”

“I’ll turn you on. You won’t be able to say no when my tongue goes exploring your c—”

“Whoa! You did not, nor will ever, earn the right to speak to me that way.”

“You think you’re too precious? You’re like some fucking museum object I can’t touch?”

“Not only can you not touch. You must stay WAY behind the velvet rope.”

Weekend Writing Prompt #121 – Teapot

I started writing a story about my late friend Roxanne, only to realise I have done so three times. Methinks that has been taken care of, don’t you? So then I remembered another teapot story 😉 Thanks for this prompt, Sammi!

Word Prompt

Teapot

“We’re having a teatime-theme bridal shower for Fhum and want you to make the cake and cupcakes.”

“I’d love to!”

“Can you make the cake in the shape of a teapot?”

“Absolutely!”

(Am I crazy?)

“That will be so cool! She’s gonna love it.”

“I sure hope so…”
